Project title: The effect of phenolic compounds on cells in culture
Project description: Cell-based assays are a recent advance used to evaluate the antioxidant potential of new compounds, including those from plant extracts. It has been noted in the literature that phenolic compounds in plant extracts can react with cell culture media to produce H2O2 and so interfere with antioxidant cellular assays.
In this project the biological activity of leaf extracts from puha will be evaluated using the cellular antioxidant assay and to investigate if there are any interactions between the plant extracts and the cell culture media using difference cell lines.
