The fundamental physiological properties in zebrafish are similar to those in humans. Therefore, these little vertebrates are well suited for research. Specially in the early embryo stage, because the zebrafish egg is fertilized outside the body. The egg and the embryo are transparent, which allows to follow the development as the embryo grows.
The consumption of plant-derived antioxidants has been associated with the prevention of diseases, including cancer and neurodegenerative disorders, caused by oxidative stress.
The aim of the project is to investigate delivery of antioxidant phytochemicals in vivo using nanoparticle formulations in a zebrafish model.
